I am Currently reading Never Get a “Real” Job: How to Dump Your Boss, Build a Business and Not Go Brokeby Scott Gerber. The book itself isn’t great, but Mr. Gerber does have some great points and some easy to follow techniques to help start a business.

The reason I am not impressed with the book is most of the writing feels like filler and a lot of long drawn out rants. As I already said, there is some great stuff in the book, but if all the fluff was taken out the book would be half the size.

The One Paragraph Start-up Plan

One of the great things that is brought out in the book is the idea of the one paragraph business plan. I have taken entire courses on business plans while getting my MBA. They are long, boring, and really mean nothing.

Side Note:
Even with that said, I hope to create a series of posts in the near future that is basically a business plan for web comics that all of you can read.

So, lets get to it!

The One Paragraph Start-up Plan for my Web Comic

Found this while doing research on Alan Moore. Even though I have only read “Watchman”, I am already putting him up on a pedestal.

It has to do with the way he views the comics, society, the role of the storyteller, and the world.

His jewelry choices, however, does leave his fashion sense in question; but who am I to judge I’m still in my pajamas at 9:30 at night.

A couple heads up:

  • This is a full length documentary so it is long.
  • He talks about a lot of things and not just writing or comics.
  • He talks about adult things so don’t watch in front of kids or at work.
  • There are a few images of a sexual nature (again, no kids or work).

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Adding a few pagesMy last post on my Niche Site experience was almost 3 months ago. A lot has happened since then not relating to the Niche Site.

As many of you know, my wife gave birth to our first child, we ran a successful Kickstarter campaign, and printed our first comic book.

In other words, we have been insanely busy.

This is why I hope to master niche sites. The opportunity to work on my art and spend time with my family with out worrying about money would be a dream come true. That is why I am trying to make this work and build a passive income portfolio.

Make sure you know why you want to make passive income through Niche Sites. It makes the long hours and lonely nights more bearable.

Thank You to

No JOBS!I keep getting asked by family and friends what my current job situation is.  When I tell them I am creating a web comic they respond with, “Oh, that’s nice, but what are you doing for a “real job”.

I hate having a real job

I haven’t worked a full time job in my life.  I have always worked part time while running one side business or another.  The reality is, I have hated every job that I have had.  I had one or two I could stand (Teen Center Attendant, Camp Counselor, & Delivery Boy for a Farm Animal Feed Store) but most I hated with a passion.

Some of those jobs:

This is my application for the thinktraffic.net Mentorship program.

I hope you enjoy my video.

This video talks about why I would love an opportunity for the Mentorship for a Year with ThinkTraffic.net.

It would be an amazing opportunity to spread the word about my comic books and teach others how to make a living with their comic book projects.

UPDATE:

I was not chosen for the mentorship!
I think it is because I am not selling an information product and that is what companies like “ThinkTraffic” specialize in.

The Main CharactersI found Kings of Overgrove through twitter (@KingsOvergrove) while looking for other independent comic book creators.  Kings of Overgrove caught my attention because the creator is giving away half his graphic novel for free.  He also created a motion comic he published on YouTube.

The Website

http://kingsofovergrove.com/

What I love

From the first look at the website, we can tell that Kings of Overgrove is special.  The site has a great design that reflects the story, is easy to navigate, promotes the viewer to share the site, and allows for comments.  You can’t ask for anything more from a website.  It looks great and it does its job!

For those of you who read this blog for my articles on Internet Marketing for Artists or are starting your own online comic bookyou can probably learn a lot from this site.  If you’re putting together your online portfolio, promoting your project, or publishing an online series this is a great website to explore before creating your own.
