Puck by ElectricGecko

PuckThe funny pages and I have had a falling out in recent years.  Maybe not that recent.  I had a paper in my hands every day the last week and there was only one (just ONE!) that could be counted as actually ‘funny.’  The rest were Hagar the Horrible.  Emphasis on Horrible.  So unfunny.  That’s why I like the internet, it has funny comics!

‘Puck’ is a weekly Webcomic strip put out by ElectricGecko (real name withheld) that has been in circulation since the late 90’s; with the exception of a hiatus so ElectricGecko could pursue other interests.  He’s recently rebooted ‘Puck’ and has been enjoying a renewed success with it ever since.  And I can see why, it’s funny!

I admit I haven’t gone through all the strips in the original run yet but that’s because I happened to stumble on the new run first and I’m not done with it yet; possibly because I’m a sucker for good comedic timing.  And one liners.  I love a good one liner!  I’m also attracted to ‘Puck’ because of hilarious absurdities that mainstream comics don’t allow; i.e. unwed pregnancy and crack houses.  Kudos to ElectricGecko for making these, and subjects like these, humorous, I don’t know how you did it but you did.

Something I haven’t run into before is colored word balloons.  ElectricGecko uses a multi-color scheme to code the balloons according to different speakers, something I didn’t quite get at first but now I think it might actually be keeping me from confusing multiple talkers.  A problem I’ll admit I’ve had in the past.  They even add something to the mood of the speaker.

Give it a shot people, it’s good work!  I, myself, am looking forward to seeing more of ‘Puck’ in future.
