Wonder Women! The Untold Story of American Superheroines on PBS

An amazing documentary on Wonder Women and Feminism in American History as it was reflected in Comic Books, Television, and Film.

The main focus of the video is to cover the history, the story, and backdrop surrounding Wonder Woman.

In 1 hour, this documentary covers an amazing amount of detail in the Wonder Woman’s story. It touches on World War 2, Greek Mythology, Feminism, and everything else that both influenced and was influenced by Wonder Woman.

A major part of the history includes Fredric Wertham’s book “Seduction of the Innocent” and how it affected the Comic Book industry. Specifically the creation of the Comics Code Authority to have a moral standard for comics. Of which, one of the responses in comic books was to reduce the heroic roles of woman in comics as a direct result to Wertham’s campaign.

More than the history behind the comic book heroine, what really is great about this documentary is the touching stories of how Wonder Woman is empowering for so many and helps individuals cope with struggles they face in their day-to-day lives.
